How Long Do Genital Warts Last – months or years

How long do genital warts last? If you’re suffering from genital warts, or worried that you might have been exposed to the virus that causes them, it’s natural that you’ll want to know what the outlook is. It’s possible you’ve heard people say that once you’re infected you’ll stay that way for life. That’s not actually the case though; usually the infection will clear up on its own. Genital warts are caused by some types of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) that can be caught through having sex with an infected person. There are vaccines that can protect you from catching these viruses, such as Gardasil, but they only work for prevention; if you’re already infected Gardasil won’t help. There isn’t any cure for HPV, but there are a few things you can do to minimize its effects.

how long do genital warts last –  cleared when the warts are gone?

Just because there isn’t a cure doesn’t mean you’ll have warts for life. How long genital warts last depends on several things. Your body’s immune system will eventually adapt to the virus and attack it, and usually it manages to beat the infection. Up to 80% of people are free of the virus within 18 months of being infected and after two years that increases to 90%. The rates for self-clearance are slightly higher in men than in women. As for the warts, quite often they disappear on their own; how long this takes is hard to predict and it doesn’t always happen. If it does, remember that you could still be infectious – as long as the virus is in your body you can pass it on, even if the genital warts last only a short time. Don’t assume your immune system has beaten it off unless you’ve had a test that shows the infection is over.

how long do genital warts last – do they re-occur?

It’s common for the warts to disappear then return months or even years later. This can also happen if the warts are removed; sometimes they come back and need to be treated again. This can also be caused by reinfection. There are many diseases that you can only catch once; after you’ve recovered you are now immune to it. Sadly it doesn’t always work that way with HPV. Even after your system has cleared out the virus you can still get infected again. Most people with genital warts use some sort of treatment to remove them, and some of the treatments can be very quick. Burning them off with chemicals usually takes between one and two weeks, and surgical removal is immediate. Because they can return it often takes up to two years before you’ve seen the last of them though. A difficult question to answer is “How long do genital warts last” but the good news is it probably won’t be for life!

Hi Dean, I would be thinking you mean adapt to repel. You may consider compiling a list of lifestyle tasks to strengthen your immune system such as: a tailored exercise regime, eating a healthy balanced diet, drinking more water and getting enough sweet sleep to prepare for tomorrow. Am I starting to sound old?

I have been fighting this virus since 2 months after diagnosed HPV.
I still hope it can gone. I take vegetables now and also AHCC and clear natural herbs for HPV.
I can see the result after taking AHCC supplement a japanese mushroom. It is helping to reduce the size a bit.
Then, I was still panic and want to see result gone. I take clear natural herb. But I do not see the result from the product yet.
I am really spending lot of money in health and natural products. May be a be silly. I also bought essential oils like frankincense too. I applied with diluted olive oil. I also purchase watrol and wartin online.
But, I still not yet see changes now after 2 months. I still google for solution to cure and fight this virus.
I hope it can be gone forever.

Hi Mart, gotta say I’m pleased to be totally without any physical lumps or bumps. I keep my immune system strong with the basic and good ingredients of balanced nutrition, regular exercise, enough sleep and a relatively stress free lifestyle. Would recommend you and all my blog readers to build up your immune systems as a great way to stay free from as many infections as you can. My immune system gets the major credit for me not having any work days lost for illness in the past twenty years.
        All the Best
